Its statute

The Société française de vexillologie was founded on 16th March,1985 as an association by Hervé Pinoteau, Lucien Philippe † and Pierre Charrié. It is a non-profit organization and it is registered at the Préfecture of Paris dated 13th June, 2003 and published in the official gazette of 19th July, 2003. Its head-office is located at the present time at: 8 rue de Courcelles – 75008 PARIS.

Since 1st July, 1991 S.F.V. has been a member of the Fédération Internationale des Associations de Vexillologie (F.I.A.V.) founded on 7th September, 1969, and whose current president is Michel Lupant (Belgium). As such, it takes part in the International Congresses of Vexillology (C.I.V.) which have regularly happened every two years since 1965. Its connecting element is Franciae Vexilla bulletin which is sent quarterly to all members (four times a year).

Its flag was adopted on 15th June, 1985. It uses French colors and is formed of a white cross fimbriated by an alternatively red and blue border. These borders are separated from quarterly blue and red squares by a white border (ratio 9-1-1-5-1-1-9)
